Frequently Asked Questions

How it works?

On the day of your site visit, a member of our team will go through your requirements. This is your opportunity to discuss any questions you may have including those on automation type (underground or overground), any civils work required or accessories such as controllers, intercoms etc. Any changes to your order can be made here. Exact measurements will be taken by our team. Our office will then issue a final quote for you to consider. We will only ever send a qualified and knowledgable gate surveyor to give you advice and we will be quick and responsive with quotation and information.

What should I know before I consider Automation?

Here are a few things to consider:

What Gate type automation do I want? Underground, Overground or Sliding system

Would I like an Intercom?

Do I want control by Mobile Phone?

Would I like to see who is at the gate by camera?

Will anyone want access when I'm not there?

I have gates, can you make them Automatic?

Yes. All we require is mains electric power at the gate.

Wired vs Wireless intercoms/keypads/cameras?

Wired devices are always more preferable than wireless because:

You are sure they are connected

They are normally cheaper to buy

What is a Ground Loop?

A ground loop is a cable used to detect a vehicle which triggers the gate to open. They are usually buried into the driveway. More modern systems utilise microwave technology which use an above ground detector.

What are Photocells?

Photocells come in pairs and function by sending an infrared beam from one to the other. If this beam is broken, the photocells send a signal to the gate automation control panel. This signal usually tells the gates to stop and then fully open.

What is a GSM Intercom

This is an intercom that uses a sim card like your phone instead of a cable from gate to house.

How Safe are automatic gates?

Gate Master take Safety extremely seriously!

Did you know that Automatic Electric Gates are now considered under the same rules and regulations as Heavy Machinery!

On all our new installs we consider the area around the gates as the danger area. With this in mind we fit 4 photocells which create a “box” which if entered into, automatically stop the gates from closing.

Furthermore Gate Master only install automated electric gate kits which have anti-crush encoders which provide a fail-safe if the photocells go faulty.

For anywhere not covered by photocells, safety edges, radar beams and gate motors with obstacle detection (encoders) are recommended.

These will stop and reverse a gate if it comes into contact with something or someone.

Gates and electric gate kits are an investment for your property and it makes no sense to cut corners.
